Mating in simulation
Hello Long time no see! So I have a question about mating and simulation: I want to make an assembly with a car body, four wheels, four jack points and a jack: It will be a: - one really simple car body made of one solid - four wheels made of one solid that i copy to four places in the assembly - fo...

Re: SSP and planes
Thanks, I will look into putting the SSP into the parts.
Will it affect how the subassemblies updates after I do som changes to the SSP out in the process, there is still just one SSP part that needs editing?

SSP and planes
Hello So I've been using John's SSP approach for a while when drawing assemblies and it works well for me. Lately I've been thinking, what plane do you guys pick when you start a new sketch in a part in one of the sub assemblies, say you want to draw on the front plane and not a plane created specif...

Re: Render problem
Thanks, but I didn't know the paint I've applied on the wall around the TV would take the reflections from the floor, do you mean that if I make the floor material less reflective it won't reflect onto the walls? Thanks, I'll look into that help file.

Re: Render problem
Update: I've kind of solved it with applying material instead of appearance, but it gave me a new problem, I can't seem to get rid of the reflection from the floor onto the wall, any tips on this?

Render problem
Hello So I've been trying to render the image below, but when I render a section view my flooring just show up blank. I've tried applying the appenance to both the body and the face, neither work. I's a multibody part in an assembly, and it doesn't seem to matter if I just render the part or the ass...

Re: Best practice with cloud data import
Thanks, yes I think you have a point here, I have all the points in an matrise so it should not be to much work to key in the points, especially as the plane would represent the Z-coordinate. I've always wondered about this, in what order to use mirror, from simple lines in the sketch to features an...

Re: Best practice with cloud data import
It's like you say, bulkheads, not random points.
So it's like 5x10 points for the main hull and about the same for each flot as it's a trimaran, and it will of course doble when you mirror, either the points or the body parts.
I think maybe it's so few point that it should be doable?

Best practice with cloud data import
Hello So just a quick question: I've some table of half breaths for a boat hull that I have put into Excel in a three column style(x, y and Z). I want to import the coordinates into Solidworks as points, so I pasted all the data into a comma dilibert text file, and it seems to import fine into solid...

Re: Saving out bodies to an assembly
Hello I'm not sure the reason for the problem, but I did auto assign names to start with so I don't think so. If you see the tread I link to it seems to be a widely spred issue, I hope I've solved it now. So by this lead here: https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/87219 and https://r1132100503382-eu1-...

Re: 3 way mold
Thanks again everybody Yes probably best to add fillets later and I also made a version where I split the mould down the middle. No problem, I'll turn off realview in the future, but regarding the missing name, that's because it's still a part with 3 solid bodies that I want to save out as an assemb...

Re: 3 way mold
So as you can see, this time I used the manual method with combine and surface cut, but then it doesn't mask of the hulls like it does in the mould feature. It seems like I have a problem with the fillets when I put the cut flush to one side, maybe I should go one mm in into the tap, do you know whe...

Re: 3 way mold
Thanks As you mention, the tab is the reason I've made the mold this way, I don't think it's possible to lay up the fibre in traditional way and get the cloth down i the tab, but I really don't know, this will be my first attempt at carbon fibre part. I contacted Easy Composite and they advised me t...

Ok thanks, I will do that. Yes one should believe the feature is developed for a reason. So is there anyone in here that have experience with laying up carbon fiber cloth in such a small form, will it be doable with this kind of tre way compression molding? Any recommendations for a forum on this? T...

Hello Thank you both, so I did not see your replays. Maybe I can just make a plane and split it that way, or can it also be done in...

I guess, that's just a way to try to get me to have a subscription, it's all gone from my addinn now(that will say, I can still make a tick in the menu, but it will not load, not even if I restart SW). Yes I could just use a 2d program to draw this part, but it's a part of a bigger assembly, and it'...

Andy: can you please give a short "PW360 for dummies" on the basics of how you get such a crisp render, I've tried many times, but mostly ending up with a JPG image save from a "saveAs". I find 316 stainless steel especially difficult, as it gets more colored than a shiny mirrore...

Probably not a big difference, but I change the angle of attack, anyone think this is doable now?
The green bar is the part before bending, and in scale.

Cross section anywhere on bent pipe
Hello I’m new here, migrating over from the old solid works forum that got shut down. I’m trying to find the outline/perimeter of a angled section cut on a bent pipe constructed from a spline. I know I can find it by doing a cut extrude at an angle thru the pipe and then from a drawing created norma...
