Step files only surfaces?

I am trying to import the bracket on this inductor:

It imports as surfaces only. Is there an easy way to make this a model with solid bodies?

Item Number in Note Not Updating

This drawing was made by my predecessor. I re-ordered the BOM and there are several notes with balloons that reference an item number. First I want to complain that the some item numbers didn't update to reflect the re-arranged BOM. Is there a way to force a refresh? Next, I don't know how to add th...

Re: Sharing 3D Models with non-CAD users

I just realized that free onshape makes the model public so that won't work. As for using the edrawings to email the exe, that is blocked by corporate also. They have a lot of security here because we were victims of ransom ware not too long ago. I will try the HTML later today. Thank you all for yo...

Great, Thank you nuevahola. I checked out your model and that's just what I am looking for. I don't see how to create a free accout for onshape. Is that the same as the trial?

Sharing 3D Models with non-CAD users

I want to share a 3D model/assy with non-CAD users in my company. Similar to e-drawings so the person can zoom, rotate, etc. and it would be nice if they could also measure, section, etc. My company has a strict lock-down for installing software, including not allowing e-drawings. I have tried shari...

Has anyone upgraded their vault from PDM Standard to Pro? This is being pushed on to me from higher up, and I don't want to do anything that will possibly mess up my vault or day to day job.

Motion Capture Software

I'm looking for a simple free tool to capture a video of me animating a machine on screen in solidworks. I don't need to record sound or anything fancy. I know I can do this in solidworks but I need something fast to show prototypes, easy to share and email or place in onenote. Anyone have any ideas...

How do I make a separate loop that makes number Revs for design? Then when I am ready to release, switch to Letter Revs?
Thanks,

Re: Sheet Metal? Surfacing? Flatten Surface? Help!

Read the link I provided. Essentially, you can take any file that has a surface flatten feature already in it (see the seed file attached in the linked forum post), insert your part into that file, edit the definition of the Surface-Flatten, deselect the existing face and select the faces of your p...

Don't get me wrong. Modeling the part is "easy", either with traditional solids or sheet metal. The hard part is knowing what the part will look flat.

Sheet Metal? Surfacing? Flatten Surface? Help!

I tried that.... didn't work.

The colors might seem trivial but I need the colors to stay for a complex joined part with repeated parts. With an analysis in comsol that allows you to mass-select surfaces by color.
