Re: Dropping maintenance on SW2024
Most of our files are now 2024... I won't be able to do anything with them on an older version... I have 2018 on this computer as well as 2024. I downloaded a bunch of files so I think I have the stuff to do an install of 2024 on our server. I'm not sure if it's worth downloading all the files for 2...

Dropping maintenance on SW2024
We are considering dropping the maintenance on SW 2024. Very small company, I have been the engineering department. I am retiring, and only occasionally doing very small designs for 3D printed parts, nothing fancy. As far as that goes, SW2008 would do more than I ever need. Big projects will be done...

Re: Free or Cheap SW versions
I am near looking for something like this also. Retiring soon. SW 2008 did everything I need for my little projects. I just need to make models for my older 3D printer, and drawings to make parts on my J-head mill. I don't need endless updates, having to re learn the software every year, don't need ...

Re: Rebuild warning that won't go away.
It sounds like a different cause. Mine were the hidden parasite comp curves. I had some other assemblies that had rebuild errors, that showed up, that were related to configurations and mates, and that stuff. I spent about a week during a slow time cleaning up a couple of projects that had been thro...

Re: Would "3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS for Makers" be right for me?
I'm in a similar situation - I use SW at work, that's different. But for my home projects, I need something to make 3D models, and export STL files for my 3D printers. I don't need endless updates. I don't want to use an online program, since you never know when they may change the rules or how it w...

Think of it like a molded part. The formed part has to have at least some draft angle so it can fall out of the yellow, and the tool / blue can slide straight out of the part.

I just ran into one of mine today - and fixed it. Hot keys - specifically, those that are just the regular keys - that is not CTRL, ALT, etc. So many times I go to make a meaningful name for a feature, and apparently the click to edit the name didn't take, and I have who knows what happening to the ...

I ran into this a while back... Had to get a new PC for SW & Cadstar for work. Small company, I am the only person that knows how to use SW. I was using the 2nd license thing to once in a while work at home, and home hobby projects. They took that away, and I would have to do that unlicense / re...

I have one of the X keys 24 units. Mostly use it with the PCB design software, and some general keys for all programs. It has been good, It comes with labels so you can label the keys as needed. Sometimes the caps get a little loose, I don't know if they fixed this.

I just fixed the macro! I did a web search for 2018 / 2019 differences. found this - https://www.javelin-tech.com/blog/2019/10/solidworks-macro-not-running/ So I opened the macro editor. Re: Rebuild warning that won't go away.
Update - The macro from my VAR does the same thing - just disappears, with no resulting list to show the items. We discovered I am running 2018, and he only has a macro for 2019 and up.
The dates on the macro from Alin are all newer than 2018. Is whatever is different a big thing to change?

Update gotchas?
I've been running 2018 for a while... Why? Because what I do doesn't use much more than fairly basic stuff - I could still work just fine with 2008 for what it's worth. Also, I have always waited for a time when I had a break from SW design projects to update it, in case of problems. I tend to alter...

I use some color. Circuit boards are green. Parts that are black I usually make dark grey. Indicators, I make the color they light up. Panel exteriors are usually black also, but I can't work on the model with black as the color because the sketches are too hard to see.

How can anyone actually use the 3DExperience? It's incomprehensible / unusable. Not going to waste much more time on it. Too much work. I'll stay here. Turn down the monitor brightness. Change the backgrounds on windows and apps to be shades of gray. Dim room lighting, especially any that reflect off the monitor.
