Re: More Proof of inability to name things
It's See What You Mean which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, maybe it's a French concept that doesn't translate to English well. Guess they were trying to be hip. Here's an article, been almost 10 years and the platform hasn't really changed. https://www.3dcadworld.com/the-dassault-systemes-soci...

You can get some value from it if your SW BOM is THE BOM. I did not know that it was the last hex digit in the docID that determined which folder they went into. I did notice that they were not evenly loaded (disk space), this would explain why. Re: Solidworks 2021 SP 4.0 is NO LONGER available
The file versions are renamed into some cryptic scheme. So if there's file A.sldprt in the users' vault view and it has 8 unique versions, then there will be 8 files in the archive server in some folder by some filename. If a file has 8 versions, there may not be 8 physical copies of that file depe...

Re: Solidworks 2021 SP 4.0 is NO LONGER available
I don't know how SolidWorks PDM works, I was assuming it puts the CAD in the DB like other sophisticated PDM products do, but that sounds like it's the wrong assumption. The defunct PDMWorks didn't do that, in fact, it just used a big text file for meta data instead of a real database, and just ren...

Re: If I check out a SW assembly, update data card, then check in will it update the version of the components?
I'm assuming any check in of a SW assembly will update the refs in PDM for that file to whatever are on that local machine's cache. I'm thinking of two examples where this might be unexpected. By the way, we cannot always use latest version of all components, users are to get by referenced version,...

Re: Setting a variable in PDM workflow transition to track user
in order for PDM to be able to set a variable for a file through a Set Variable action on a workflow transition, the variable needs to exist on the file data card for that file type. Check the data card you are using for slddrw file types and make sure your variable is somewhere on the data card. On...

Re: PDM data card variable to custom property (attribute) mapping; when will it automatically add the custom property?
There are a few additional things that you should know about variable mapping with PDM data cards. On the initial check in, PDM will pull the values from the file for any variable that has been "mapped" to an attribute of the file metadata and store these values in the database. But on the...

Technically it already does this. If you drag a file in, it automatically uploads a version 1 of the file. It's in a private state so no one but the user and admin sees it unless you unable it for other users. The others users will see it but not be able to open it until that first check in. The ad...

Re: Automatic Check in of File during creation
Unfortunately no. To force the check in on adding a file to the vault would probably require using Dispatch or some other API hook on the add file action that can't be done in a Standard vault. This would be a nice enhancement for both Standard and Pro, though. So many things rely on that initial ch...

Everything on the client goes through EdmServer.exe. It is not necessary to close the Search tool or SolidWorks if you need to restart the PDM client service on the system but it's never a bad idea to restart other processes that use EdmServer when restarting that one. I would highly recommend a res...
