Exactly what I meant.jcapriotti wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:50 am Their test and validation doesn't include our process, so it's not a proper test and validation of our systems, IMO.
You would have to lobby them to include these. My guess is this would be possible.

Re: Hypothetical Replacement.
I can guarantee in a larger environment they would break something. An automatic update that I'm not able to test in our environment which is heavily automated would cripple our business. I'm required to have a rollback plan in case things go south. How do I do that with Onshape? They would have to...

You could contact Gustavo Fontana (gustojunk) on Rhino's forum. He worked at Bose and designed countless speaker grilles. He now have his own design agency; https://www.linkedin.com/in/gustavofontana-fresco/

Re: How to draw complex hole patterns
I know that Bose and B&O use Rhino+Grasshopper to develop these patterns. But designers, particularly in the automotive industry, are very finnicky about the appearance of these holes and can spend days refining a pattern. In this thread you'll find grasshopper definitions that will help you sta...

Re: Onshape's downsides from a SolidWorks user perspective?
3DX is the platform. What on the platform "burned" you? Just curious. Were you using SolidWorks Connected? We're using desktop SolidWorks, with the connector to 3DX. Documenting bugs and finding workaround, re-watching tutorials to find how simple tasks must be done, digging through count...

Re: Onshape's downsides from a SolidWorks user perspective?
No problem, thought I'd ask, at least. If you are designing those hulls with Onshape, it must be working hard. They were all modelled with SolidWorks. But, after being burned by 3DX, we are evaluating Onshape. Surfacing, while looking simple, is surprisingly powerful. We'll try to model a hull soon.

Seems easy to do in most parametric CAD software I know of.
You could try Onshape free, it's mating system is very easy to use and it has a nice "play button" to show the free axes.

Re: Onshape's downsides from a SolidWorks user perspective?
Thanks a lot to everyone, that's very helpful. After a few weeks of trial, I found no shortcomings in our daily tasks compared to using SolidWorks. I would say that it went faster and was a lot more enjoyable. I understand your worries Matt, but, having been hacked in the past, we feel that outsourc...

Onshape's downsides from a SolidWorks user perspective?
Besides the obligation to have everything on the cloud (a plus for us), less potential employees familiar with Onshape (both from the market and from schools), what are Onshape's downsides? I've used it for two weeks now and I found nothing stopping us from migrating to it. There's some features tha...

From my (limited) experience I got the impression that Grasshopper is a totally different beast than parametric modeling a-la SW...

Re: choice of 3D softawre
Since you're an AutoCAD pro, Rhino could be a good choice; you will be productive immediately and it has a low price. It's also very good at importing and exporting various file formats. With Grasshopper within Rhino you could parametrically control stuff like buildings, piping, etc. Its community w...

Re: Question about the EXPERIENCE add-in for Solidworks
I don't know specifically about Simulia, it may have a tool to import a CAD file other than within 3DX. What I meant about uploading a file in 3DX, is that SolidWorks files have more than just geometry, and that may be lost that way. It all boils down to whether Simulia has the capability of working...

Re: Question about the EXPERIENCE add-in for Solidworks
From what I understand, it's not possible to upload a SolidWorks file to the platform and it still being considered a CAD file. When you install the connector you also add a translator that converts SolidWorks file into a format readable by 3DEXPERIENCE, probably some sort of CATIA file. If at all p...

Re: Advice please
My advice would be to try Onshape.
They have a free version (not the tryout version) that is very powerful. I do all my personnal work with it now.
It's modern and robust and you won't have to manage files on your computer, it works like Google Docs. That also mean you don't need a powerful computer.

The people that use Photoshop for work aren't going to be phased by an additional $15/year. They'll just pay it. But, it does make me wonder how much business Adobe has lost to amateurs that may be freelancing and starting a business. Sorry if it's an old thread but I found this free download that ...

Hey Mr Gibeault, what's the use of using Rhino to then move the part to another program to do more modifications..? Free forming tools? There's always some place for a little bit of Rhino 8-) But it's not used necessarily on the same projects. And I will often do some development in Rhino and start...

Re: CAD Admins, raise your hands!
Welcome, that's a good list of various CAD systems. Curious, do you still use Solid Edge or what years were you active in that system? Solid Edge was the first parametric CAD program I learned. It was around 1998 and I chose it because there was a free student edition. Liked it very much but my nex...

Well, it certainly reassured me that SolidWorks wasn't going to be replaced by this anytime soon. :P I'm sure it will be sooner than you wish. Seeing how poorly the platform is setup, from the 12-logins-a-day, to the more than 40 different apps that you'll need to try before finding the command you...

You have to activate the "Direction of extrusion" box and then you'll be able to pick the line.
