Re: Surfacing add ons for Solidworks

Good stuff, save having to enter settings each time you start a session. I tend to use edge-surf deviation setting quite a bit as well. 0.0001mm if its a few surfs on a handheld sized product. I've had several issues trying to get this to run. At first, It would open Rhino, but then something chang...

How to select coordinate system plane using API

I am trying to select a plane of a created coordinate system and then normal to it. It only works manually doing it, but not using API! o[ Appreciate any help! Dim swApp As Object Dim Part As Object Dim boolstatus As Boolean Dim longstatus As Long, longwarnings As Long Sub main() Set swApp = Applica...

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

FYI, We have recently made the transition from SW to SE. Most of our stuff is migrated by now. And I will attest it was well worth the pain of migrating. We do a lot formed sheet metal design which is where sync really shines. So we use sync very heavily, which makes migration fairly easy. If we wo...

Re: Solid Edge classic vs premium perpetual license

Depends on if you need point cloud. Easy way to figure it out is get Classic, and if you find you're missing something you need, I'm sure its easy to upgrade, where going the other direction is probably less easy. PMI would be included in everything, but I don't think 2D nesting comes with the soft...

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

I don't know why they still keep with the .psm file type. The file can be switched back and forth. From writing our auto DXF add-in I learned that there's a meta-data tag in the file to identify it at sheet metal or not. Cannot go by the file type any more. Oh, boy! Here we go. I'm not allowed to s...

Solid Edge classic vs premium perpetual license

Is SE premium worth it over the classic package if you don't need simulation, electric, piping? And is PMI, 2D Nesting included in both?

Re: How is SW 2022 SP 5.0 running for you?

One of a problem I have, and it was also in 2022 SP4 when you have a more complex assembly with configurations a circular pattern would always reset back the value of the degree you type in to its initial. So, you need to delete this circular pattern and then recreate it and again for every value ch...

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

Thanks all for the tips will try this out! 1. Is there any need to use the .psm sheet metal template? What are the benefits of saving in this format. As I could just have .prt and the switch between when needed! 2. What's a good workflow when using both synchronous and ordered. First sync -> ordered...

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

So, this can be done in Solid Edge, but you cannot use the typical Sheet Metal Flat Pattern command. I actually did this in SE 2023 in Part using a helical curve and a cross section representing the sheet metal shape to sweep along it, then used the Sweep command to create the solid. Then I went to...

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

No :) I am just evaluating the software SE and comparing it to SW what is possible. In SW this is also not doable the flanges need to be separate body to flatten it but thought SE can! And hope some expert knows the answer.

Re: Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

Yes, the previous was about how to get the flanges on the curve with no incline. So, the curve was flat on the ground. But now I am looking to have a curve with an incline from one end to the other (helical)!

Sheet metal helical curve with flanges

Is SE able to create a 180deg helical curve with flanges that can be then flatten. The incline from one end to the other is about 2inches / 50mm. Have tried to create a surface, then thicken and the use "thin part to sheet metal". But it's not working! Appreciate any ideas on how to approa...

Re: Sheet metal curve with flanges

Hi Matt, Looks like SE has one button for everything vs SW ten buttons for same thing 🤣. Yes, it's one step more than in SW but it feels more stable to work when it comes to curves. Just need now to figure out now how to have a curve like this with the flanges but following a spiral. And thanks for ...

Sheet metal curve with flanges

Hello,

Looking to create such curve in solid edge, but not sure if this is possible o[ . I don't see a way of adding flanges to a curve and to flatten it later. Any ideas if solid edge is capable of this?

Thanks
