Re: Display state
I don't understand the fear of configurations. I use them extensively and they never give me any problems (that I didn't create myself.) I do use configurations extensively. Definitely when we have tabulated parts. However, they seem to have a bigger hit on performance than display states. On our c...

If you want to use 1 configuration/display state, then linking them is the way to go. Selecting from Assy Model BOM
Just now I added a BOM to my assembly model, something I don't do so often. I found that selecting the line number in the BOM (so the whole line goes gray) would select the components (turns the items blue in the graphics window). I saved and reopened, and now it won't do that. Is there a way to bri...

You are right, if you select a any note in the graphics window, the location is not shown in the feature tree. If it's a note in a view, the view border lights up. If it's a note on the sheet, nothing is shown.

I find in 2022 that I cannot edit a hole callout locally on the drawing. It's kind of funny how I can change it in the dimension text box, but it keeps coming back. This is new for 2022? Is there a way around it?
Thanks

Can you just do a normal save in SW or do you have to use a "TC" save? In SE we can do a normal save which saves it in your cache then you can do an "Upload" which updates TC and leaves the item checked out to you. We have ours set up so when you close the item it automatically ...

Jaylin I do have the structure editor, which is nice for reviewing the structure and exporting to a spreadsheet. We are also using Teamcenter now which ties nicely with SE for the most part. But I'm finding out from talking with support that in the Siemens world SE is considered in competition with NX. I'll go ahead and recommend the part insert method. There's some hassle in managing the reference file in your PDM, and maybe it depends on the PDM system you are using. We use master model technique for some parts, so we are used to it. In our office, we strictly avoid in-context relations in assem...

Glenn I've never liked grouping in Solidworks. Way back we would group a dimension with a flag note. However, if you moved the dimension much, the flag would wander away from the dimension or get on top of it. We have since inserted the flag code into the dimension as text. Recently we added that as...

There is a way of making them longer by increasing the extension lines (beyond the dimension) setting, but that would affect all other dimensions attached to that style. Thanks, SamSpade. That's interesting, so I am glad you answered, but what a bad choice of linked controls by Solidworks. Dwight

Re: Modelling cable wound on a drum with multiple layers
The solution I gave doesn't really work. The alternating layers should switch winding direction, so you need two helixes. Seems the cable must stack by a full diameter, rather than nesting. I'd set up the ends to be 90 degrees apart and connect the ends with a sweep that follows a style spline. Dwight

laukejas You might simplify by making all the coil layers in one go. I would also eliminate all the extra sketches and planes, and instead pack as much as you can into a single sketch. Sure. It's often not obvious how the hole was made, which makes it hard to pick the method.
