Re: SolidWorks PDM, templates, library features, standard notes

For us, its all in PDM. We don't use the Property Tab Builder but built our own custom property editor which is also in PDM. The folder is set to cache, about 165mb. We also cache our standard parts (fasteners, purchased parts) folder which is fairly large (850mb) but is needed if you want to drag ...

For those of you that are refreshing cache on login, are you refreshing for just template folders? I was thinking that I would set up the folder structure as "Library" and "Projects". Should I refine that to be "Library", "Templates", and "Projects"...

Re: Learning PDM

Nice workflow. There seems to be big jumps in your prototype revisions. Your history shows an AA then a later jump to DA. Just curious about the logic there. Yeah, our documentation requires that we start a new prototype primary letter after each numeric release. It's a bit convoluted but achieving...

Too bad you can't do a conditional notifications for the "Delayed in state" notification. I don't know if it's an added feature in 2021 or one of the older releases, but when I was demoing 2021 there was an option to "remind" the notified parties after a number of days until the...

Re: SolidWorks PDM, templates, library features, standard notes

We store all templates in PDM. The folder is set to cache on login so the user has the latest version. Even if the user loses connection, they should be able to operate in PDM offline mode since the files are cached. @bnemec Not sure what's happening in your case, we've been operating this way for ...

It's possible to set your workflow to notify approval groups in parallel. Additionally, you can set it up to email them daily after a certain amount of time until it's complete. If you go that route, I recommend getting the emails forwarded to your user's email inbox rather than the PDM inbox. PDM i...

Re: PDM, How to filter the results in the Where Used tab in Vault View or Search Tool

This seems like a good candidate for either a custom SQL query or an add-in to introduce the feature's your looking for. The only downside is that the result would really just be a data table (likely excel) making it much less visually interesting to the user.

The only thing I can think to suggest is that using the split bom feature. It doesn't really solve your issue of having each table start at 1, however it should allow you to keep things in sequential order. Select a row, right-click and select Split -> Horizontally Above/Below the row you've selecte...

It sounds like you just need to reset the settings to default (for opening files and file associations) and then adjust them again.

This depends on where you're ECO is. We have them in PDM as .cvd files so we can query for "open" ECOs directly from PDM. As for remembering the ECO the user is working on, you could default and check the box if the user's name is a variable on the ECO. You could also store it in a DB som...

I would consult with your VAR on changing the format on an existing production vault, I've never done it. I'm assuming it just means dates are stored in the new format for new data only. Which may or may not cause an issue for you.....mostly when sorting dates and it's mixed. Some of the date searc...

The local PDM installation on your machine is able to keep track of the CurrentVersion(highest version number in the database) as well as the LocalVersionNo(cached version no). The API makes these readily available through the IEdmFile objects, which is essentially what the PDM add-in is using to ge...
