Re: SW system settings file location?
Thanks Matt - I didn't realize that it writes to the registry. We are having issues with our new deployment of SW2021 here at Sarcos in that user's settings are not being saved upon restart of SW. It was an admin install and our company PC's are extremely locked down due to our work with the DOD.

Hi Matt,
What is your issue with multibody Sheet Metal? I think it is a brilliant way to design sheet metal parts in context to each other without top-down assembly method.

per this discussion about reattaching dimensions (and trying to reattach both dangling) whether they are smart or ordinate. If you are having trouble reattaching a dangling dim. try selecting either a vertex or a line; SW doesn't like to identify both but needs the specific entity type to reattach. ...

I've seen this issue also (and regularly) and agree with @christian chu that I need to close shutdown and restart SW to rid the problem. SW must be cache the filename somewhere and not clear until the program restarts...

I have my two favor mapped to the special side keys on my mouse as well as duplicated on my toggle left and right on my wheel: the S key (for popup menus for sketch, part, assembly) and the H for Hide/show all.

Maha Nadarasa - Hi Maha, you should try to get ahold of Ed Eaton. Ed did an entire project on Fusion 360 and I'm sure he'd have a lot to say about it compared to SolidWorks. I used Fusion about 5 years ago on and off. It has a very slick GUI and I like a lot of things about it including Tsplines bu...

Re: How to change appearance of a part in a section view?
Hi Tear,
There is no known workaround to this that I know of other than if you are wanting to apply appearances to a part in an assembly, you can open the part into its own window and apply or change the appearance there whilst retaining the section view in the assembly.

Yes - untrim also as a method of getting back to full sphere. I believe I use untrimmed in the model I posted. If not I did use it on this model attached. It didn't get back to a full untrimmed sphere but did get me far enough to get a useable reference.

Re: How to place point at the center of a sphere?
Thanks for all of your thoughtful replies -I'm still studying them. The assumption for my issue is that this is an import and I don't have access to the base feature that created the sphere. Also, the spherical face of the model is partial. If the Spherical face was a full face, then the best I've f...

Re: What are your most impressive tricks of Solidworks
HerrTick Got a feature that absolutely refuses to unite/subtract/intersect? When I run into this problem, what I do is make a surface copy of the opposite face of the Solid that I'm trying to unite (say a mirrored body across the midplane that won't unite). With that surface, I then do a Replace Fa...

@BrianHoerner - Yeah, like I say, I've never been able to pin it down to that "one thing" - it just seems to go away after a few rebuilds and saves of the part.

@jcapriotti - Jason, are you talking about multi-bodies in a drawing or derived parts thru Save Bodies? Can you expand on the issue with drawings and updates moving views of the parts off the sheet? - I've never had that issue?

@mattpeneguy per the read only remark.
Matt, I have to think about it myself whether it is an annoyance or not. I believe there are some options in system options as well as the save dialog to not save read-only parts - but don't know if they would alleviate the rebuild mark...

Re: "Large" multibody part vs Assembly with lots of Virtual component
My 2 Cents is that there would have to be a pretty good reason someone is building a 500+ body part - and I wouldn't accept it or get them to change their methodology. If it is a EE board, then my first feature in the import would an Extrude to combine all the components to either make one body or p...

FYI - I was doing some work about a month ago with a colleague of mine on SW2019 SP2 and every time I went to do a Pn'G SW would crash. Well, as most of you know they submitted a fix for SW2020 and backported the fixed to SW2019 SP5 - Problem solved. Pn'G on my SW2019 and SW2017 are working perfectly.

When creating or editing the Save Bodies feature, the file location for the new or newly edited body is the last file location you saved something in a SW session - Argh$@#!! Re: Saving and closing SolidWorks suppresses new and last changed features
I've seen this issue before - and I also cannot get it pinned-down as to what causes it. My first inclination would be configurations, or a combo of configurations with display states... I can usually resolve it, but never have figured out why, it just seems to eventually go away. I've got to believ...

Re: Part location Building Practices
My 2 cents... If they are bottoms up parts, then the Base feature is centered on Part's XYZ, and almost always base part sketch is centered on the mirror plane (i.e. right plane) and extruded>midplane. If you have a master with multi-body parts, then this is a non-issues as all the derived parts wil...
