The high today is 25F / -4C. Those of you who live up north and deal with this all of the time are crazy. The air temperature in Montreal is currently -12°C / 10°F, add the windchill factor and we're several degrees below that. Better yet, tonight's low is -19°C / -2°F, it's not your typical going ...

I've been using it on and off pretty much since its inception (SW95) along with 2D CAD (AutoCAD). Way back, I had worked for one of the first companies to implement the use of SW in our area (Quebec). Back then our reseller would physically come into the office to provide training. It has come a lon...

As @JuTu mentioned adding sketch relations (midpoint of one line to the endpoint of another or even midpoint of one line to the midpoint of another), instead of using the 'Midpoint Line' command will eliminate the visibility of those points.

the line scale in Solidworks is automatically adjusted with the scale of the views, so you should never have to adjust them like you do in Autocad. They are usually set by the standard you pick (ANSI/ISO), but you can modify them in document properties. I have never modified them in Solidworks like...

Re: Current Hourly Rate of Freelance CAD Drafters?
Great insights. Thanks Matt. Yeah, $25-$30 with benefits at full time job. Benefits seem to add around an extra 50% to the hourly rate (roughly) from what I've seen. So $37.50-$45 might be about right for a contract drafter not getting benefits, if that contractor gets to use the company's computer...

There is a way of making them longer by increasing the extension lines (beyond the dimension) setting, but that would affect all other dimensions attached to that style.

Hi Alex, that does work great for projections views, but unfortunately doesn't apply when using section views.AlexLachance wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 10:08 am Use projected views and switch the projected views from the flat pattern config to the default config, and voila!

Re: Hole table & holes in non-planar faces
It seems like you can select the edge of the hole only if your view is perpendicular to it (where the hole looks like a hole and not an oval), but the Hole Table won't indicate the actual size of the hole, only its location. You might have to do that manually (probably not recommended).

I'm assuming that you are using AutoCAD. If that is the case, you can insert a 'Basepoint' parameter at the insert location of the block and ensure that the 'Basepoint' parameter is visible in all three visibility states. This should do it.

Your part doesn't seem to have any sheet metal operations (no break forming or roll forming). Looks like something that would require a stamping operation or something similar. You can try creating a conic surface and then flattening that.

For simple parts, as the one shown, I would agree to just model it as a sheet metal part. For more complicated designs (with compounded angles and non 90° bends) I would opt to use the convert to sheet metal tool, and then close the corners manually as required.
