Instance Properties in Solidworks?
Is it possible to have instance properties in Solidworks? For example I have a part that is used in different physical location but the parts themselves are identical, can there be a custom property that is specific only to the one instance of the part without being in every instance of the part in ...

Internal Id & Persistent Reference Ids in Solidworks
Does Solidworks have internal id's? Is this what is meant by persistent reference id's? The reason I ask is that I have come from using Revit which has a GUID (Globally Unique Id) for every object that is modelled. We use this id to import data into other softwares (via excel) to drive tracking and ...

What is best way to model these sheet metal parts?
I need to model a series of sheet metal panels and put them in an assembly with a 15mm gap between each one. There are approx 50 of these panels in a row which have a 1 degree slope on the top edge which makes each panel unique in size. The sheet metal panels have flanges on each side. I know I coul...

Re: How to have holes of different sizes though each part of an assembly
There's a bunch of ways to accomplish what you want, it all depends on what you require. You could -Create holes in each part and align them manually -Create hole in one part and the other hole in the other part with an external reference to the first part so that if the hole moves it updates. -Cre...

Thanks alotGlenn Schroeder wrote: ↑Thu Jul 13, 2023 8:31 am I'd keep it simple, and edit the Parts inside the Assembly, so you'd use Part features (probably Extruded Cut or Hole Wizard) instead of Assembly features. You could use external references to align the holes.

How to have holes of different sizes though each part of an assembly
I have an assembly made of various parts. I need to put holes that line through with each other. The first hole needs to 5mm diameter, the second hole behind it needs to be 11mm diameter. I have tried using the hole series but cant get it to work ( maybe as Im only going through 2 parts?) I could cr...

Cosmetic Hole Pattern Border
Is there any way of creating a border when using the cosmetic hole pattern? I cant seem to select a sketch to define the border area or offset from face edge. I know the fill pattern feature has an option to have border but i have too many holes so need to use cosmetic holes. Thanks

Re: Configurations of Subassemblies in a master assembly
I have tried to recreate the solution but im still having an issue, one of the side angles wont move in the assembly. Its bizarre as I cant see any difference to the file you sent me, i dont think you even needed to do anything with the side angles? Would you mind to please have a look at the attach...

Re: Configurations of Subassemblies in a master assembly
Is this what you're trying to achieve? - 2023-04-22_15-18-40.jpg - Check Assmebly1 in attached file. You need to have configurations in Stiffeners & Top Angle too. Because these two parts' length changes in your configs too. wow, thank you so much , thats exactly what im trying to achieve. I re...

Re: Configurations of Subassemblies in a master assembly
Create configs in each of the assemblies and sub-assemblies that correspond to the part's configuration and then toggle in each config the appropriate config. Start from the first level assembly and climb up to your master assembly. When a sub-assembly has it's configurations created, in the higher...

Re: Configurations of Subassemblies in a master assembly
Thanks for the reply. The configuration is at the part level. The configuration drives a sketch of the sheet metal part changing the sheet size. By changing the sketch configuration at part level it updates in my sub assembly. I'm not sure how to get the update to carry through to the main assembly.

I have created 2 configurations of this which changes the size of all the parts, this is all working good. The issue is when I put these subassemblies into another master asse...
