Re: Automating Tree Display Settings in SolidWorks Assemblies
I found the code :) I'm sharing it below now. Thank you everyone. Re: Standard Parts Library: Configurations or Individual Parts?
We separate the standard parts (bolts, nuts, washers by material only... all the sizes of each are driven by design tables. The design tables are driven by concatenated information taken from an info row separated by a space after the design table data columns, which allows us to create a new copy o...

Re: SOLIDWORKS 2023 confirmed bugs
We just updated from sw22sp5 to sw23sp5 and faced first annoying issue: If drawing view has tangent edges hidden, it's impossible to dimension structural members. When you switch to tangent edges with font, you can dimension. Anyone else has this same behaviour? image.png EDIT: Found fix SPR1254289...

Re: DXF/DWG Model View Export
Here is a link that has a macro that we use to retrieve DXF file for laser cutting from our assemblies and/or multibody parts. We also create all our laser cut parts using the sheet metal feature rather then boss extrude. Even those without bends. The macro we use is in the 4th post down. I believe...

Re: DXF/DWG Model View Export
There is a macro widely circulated that will save all sheet metaal flat patterns out to dxf, with some options for naming and other settings. This is very useful as it will travers an assy or part and export all components if they are sheet metal. This saves much time in the need to open each part a...

Re: Alternative to using Equations
I rarely use equations, as I find the equation manager interface frustrating... I do link dimensions offten, although. I do create some equations in the pop=up dimension dialogue occasionally, and name the important dims accordingly. I just started working at a company that designs sound attenuating...

Re: How can this be possible???
I think Alex was right. I just had the same thing happen again and it turned out there were mates on both ends of a mirror. Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions! That was what I was about to suggest as it happened to me in a large assy with mirrored parts... the mates were added to the mirro...

In the configuratiion properties of the assembly, you can choose to hide the child components of the assembly:

Re: cannot select edges for dimensioning
I am also seeing this issue (randomly, not repeatable) since SP5 dimensioning to tangent edges... It's annoying! My work-around is to turn wireframe mode on for that view, which allows adding the dimension, then turning it back to HLR when finished.

Re: Precision on cutlist length values
I don't believe I've tried it in this particular situation, but I don't doubt that it works. I have occasionally seen Part settings override those in Drawings, and the only way to fix the Drawing was to edit the Part properties. Apologies for my vagueness, there are a few things that can happen her...

Re: Odd behavior in drawing for configured parts SWX 2023 sp3
As far as I know it uses whatever the last active configuration was in the assembly for your views. You can change it using the drop down box when inserting the view. The behavior has not changed for me since I have been on SP3. Although I always use the open document/browse option in the part/asse...

Re: Odd behavior in drawing for configured parts SWX 2023 sp3
I think it could be specific to your workflow, I haven't seen that behavior yet but I've only been on 2023 SP3 for a week. Haven't seen anyone speak about it either. Thanks for your reply Alex! I've been using SWX for quite some time, my workflow hasn't changed and after creating model views of con...

Odd behavior in drawing for configured parts SWX 2023 sp3
There is a new oddity that I've just started experiencing since starting at a new company. Normally in a drawing, when I want a model view of a component in a drawing of an assembly, I start create model view, pick the component from the assembly and create the view. Previously, the model view would...

Re: Precision on cutlist length values
Go back to the model, click the cut length dim, change its precision to none or the decimal places you want
You might want to change the precision of the template you use to do away with the problem in the future

Re: What happened when you tried Inventor
OK... I'll bite! I've been using SolidWorks since its 1995 beta and pre-release... with some breaks in between on other jobs. I was trained in Inventor and used it back around 2011… In the year and a half I started using Inventor again (2021), I would have thought that it would have progressed much ...

Re: NX vs Creo vs SolidWorks, et al
Some of my information is outdated, as I haven't used NX now for over 4 years, but my experience was this: I used both NX (12-~2020) CAM and SolidWorks (2013 at the time, now using 2023) at work… I do 95% of my modelling in SolidWorks just because it’s much faster and more intuitive, and (at the tim...

Re: How to show some components of a sub assembly as phantom and see through in drawing of upper level assembly?
It depends if you want it to show as the same line font throughout the drawing or not, but you could also put that part on a layer, which will show it according to the color/linefont of that layer (everywhere in the drawing).
