Changing CAD systems.
I'm curious as to what possesses people to decide to change CAD systems. To me the process is extremely painful and the advantages would have to be REALLY significant to make the move. Re: SE Drawing Performance?
When placing views, Solid Edge beats SW over and over in my opinion. In Edge you can select the view (even 3D rotations or align to edge or normal to face) right from the drawing without needing to open the model to add a view. This business of needing to edit the model to make the drawing is compo...

I was messing around with Onshape last night and when I went to place a new sketch and there was an existing sketch plane or plane in front the surface I wanted to select it would pick the sketch plane. When things like that are important, I'll often send an actual 2D drawing along with the 3D data (I know you machine design guys are probably mortified) just to point out the areas where "better than visual" tolerance is needed. Not at all. "Better than visual" is a way better m...

Re: How do you make a rib with endpoints following cylindrical surfaces
In my world, it is either machined into steel mold, or machined into a carbon electrode, which then erodes the steel mold. In any case, it will probably be filleted all to hell and back, so the flat top may or may not be much of an issue in the end. That's kind of why I mentioned it. We do castings...
