I had been using "derived sketches" for a long time for similar kind of needs. I do believe that it is one of the under used feature in SW.

How does sw explorer access file details so quickly? It looks like it can access the assembly component list without fully opening the file. Can this speed be harnessed in a macro or external application? I would like to write a program that reduces the time it takes to do the solidworks file shell...

Here is a macro to batch export all parts in selected folder as STEP file which will be saved in the same folder. UU Macro libraries are set to SW2019 version. I would prefer VBA as still lot of users (I mean new users mainly) prefer to use/learn thru VBA since examples are readily available, one can use macro recorder and also editing a macro is easy. But if you looking for a different one then I would prefer/suggest VB.NET as this is close to VBA :)
