Re: Purchased and Machined part in BOM
It sort of depends on where your BOM data goes next... but I have done this by having two different custom properties for the part number - One called "Dwg number" and the other "Purchase Number" (or something like that). Of course, there's a Vendor property as well. For most fab...

The one I circled disables selection when you can't see them.
The one above it disables selection even when they're shown.

Alternate Position Views are really the best way I have found to do this. You mentioned being unable to dimension them... This was a bug a couple versions ago, but as far as I can tell works in 2020. Probably more like overcomplicating them. The use case for editing the properties of a material in the DB and then wanting all th...

My guess is that the swb comes in with no references. Therefore you can't use "Dim swPart as PartDoc", you have to declare everything as a generic Object. Your first couple of declarations (swApp and swDoc) are both Objects.

Re: Is it possible to update material name so that parts that use that material will update next time they're opened?
The material library is a collection of materials and their properties that can be _applied_ to a part. The action of applying material copies these properties from the database and pastes them to the part with no link to the material database. This is really necessary because every install of SW co...

It's somewhat crappy, but you can insert an alternate position view, then hide everything in the alternate position view except the part you want to show.

I don't believe there's a way to find out if a file has a design table without opening it in SolidWorks. A macro could probably do it fairly quickly running in the background.

At my last job we used a single file for all configs of the same "family" (SHCS, standard nut, thin nut, etc). Of course, these come in a somewhat limited range of possibilities (there's no M9.37 nut), so all of the possible configurations can be easily created using a design table. The be...

Interesting that the decimal separator is shown differently in the various dimensions.
Nevertheless, that chamfer dimensionis not pointing to the visible rounded surface, but to the corner between the 41.8 diameter and the 34 outer face. The actual chamfer is too small to be resolved at that scale.
