Turn the "like" button into different emotions (including like)
So, I was wondering....
You know that little like button that you can click on a post to let the user know that you read it and you like it?
Well, I was wondering if there is a thing where that like button can be expanded to allow different emotions, so to speak.
Example, I just read a post in the jokes thread that I thought was HILARIOUS! So much so that I was tempted to express my appreciation of the author's humor by creating a reply with the laugh emoji's.
But, I thought that might have been a little much. Adding a reply just to let someone know that I thought what they said was funny?
So instead, I liked it....but that felt.....underwhelming.... It would be cool to be able to select the laugh icon....
Anyway, its just an idea..and for a CAD forum, it may very well be a bad one..and if it is a lot of work, then don't worry about it.

Early on I tried out the two highest rated like/love/thumbs up type systems. We ditched the first one, and this one has stuck. The people that develop for this platform are kind of... spartan. I think phpbb was originally designed to be kind of stripped down, and it hasn't progressed beyond that.
There is probably a way to do what you ask, but there's not an off-the-shelf tool that does it, at least not one that I've seen.
In addition to the regular emojis, there are the symbols for each thread that show at the top, but yeah, you'd have to respond to the post to do that. I'll keep my eyes out for an extension with a variable like symbol...

I have no issue with "liking" bad news or such. It's an ounce of feedback. A pound of feedback would be replying. Keep it simple. My 2¢

Yeah, that's why I was saying that it isn't a big deal. It is something that is cool and friendly, but not necessarily needed.

You're talking about this LinkedIn sort of function, right?

I thought we came here to avoid the social-media-type platforms.

Like I said, its probably a bad idea. I won't be insulted if it never appears. I just happened to have a use for it.mike miller wrote: ↑Tue Dec 07, 2021 4:46 pm

I've seen those on LinkedIn but never really got what it does for me to have different ones selected. Guess we as humans just can't help ourselves.
