Blank Part numbers in Design Table

Unread post by gerard »

Once upon a time blanks were allowed in Design Tables for Part numbers.

Evidently, now they aren't.

Dunno when this happened.

I've got a fastener library that was created WAY BACK WHEN which has blanks in the Part Numbers.

Now if I make the mistake of editing the design table, SWX reassigns this to $C.

Anyway to force the Part Number to be blank?

Thanks,

g

Assuming that you mean that there is a component in which you haven't assigned a part number, then leave the "SW-Part Number" property on each of your components blank. Then it should show up as blank in the BOM.

Or do you mean keeping a row for a missing component?
If that's the case, then:

Have you tried hitting the spacebar a time or two in the text box for assigning the part number?

We use file names as part numbers so it's automatic, but in other fields if you want a blank we use a space like Glenn suggested.

Here's the weird part.

Doing some playing around, this seems to be part specific.

My flat washer part wont let me use a space for the part number, but my lock washer part will.

My head hurts.....

You have to put text of some sort in there. As others have said, a space is one option. Personally, I'd use something more meaningful such as N/A, or what I've done in my hardware design table is put 'UNASSIGNED' since here every piece of hardware is supposed to have a part number. This lets me know which parts haven't been assigned numbers.

I'm guessing at this stage is that it's a file issue. Other, similar files, don't do this.

I'll have to figure it out....

Do you have a screenshot? Words are pretty much up to interpretation.

Are we talking part properties or body properties?

Unfortunately, my SWX machine is on a protected enclave not attached to the innerwebs.

Network cross pollination is verboten...

I'm pretty sure at this stage that it is a buggered up design table in the subject part.

I'll export it and then delete and recreate to see if it alleviates the situation.

thanks

So,

Much ado about nothing. I deleted the excel design table and recreated it with a space in the part number and all is well.

Sorry for the distraction.

No need to apologize Gerard. At least you found a fix! UU
