The people that use Photoshop for work aren't going to be phased by an additional $15/year. They'll just pay it. But, it does make me wonder how much business Adobe has lost to amateurs that may be freelancing and starting a business.

This Pantone subscription seems like a company trying to justify it's existence. Can you image paying a subscription to reference the Periodic table in your work? A subscription for using QWERTY keyboards perhaps?

What's next, ASME starts charging companies a per drawing subscription fee so you can put "This drawings complies with ASME Y14" on your drawings? You pay us 10 cents per drawing per year.

If you don't force people to upgrade, they won't.
They'll use the copy they bought till the end.

Until they've become the only game in town then they force companies to whatever price game the want to play. Adobe products for example. There are some alternatives but they have so much of the market share they can hold you in a "soft" hostage situation.

We need to make file formats open as a requirement for all commercial software. The "proprietary" part should be the software itself, not the file contents. For Online cloud databases I should be able to download all of my data down to all of the feature data.

Christmas time is closing in, how many are going to be off during the holidays?

Tomorrow will be my last day of work of the year, I'll be off until January 4rth 2023! Really eager to enjoy the holidays and also have the time to rest up a bit. Most likely won't be as active, if at all, on here, besides for my general rants.

The passenger steamer SS Warrimoo was quietly knifing its way through the waters of the mid-Pacific on its way from Vancouver to Australia. The navigator had just finished working out a star fix and brought Captain John DS. Phillips, the result. The Warrimoo’s position was LAT 0º 31’ N and LONG 179 30’ W. The date was 31 December 1899.

“Know what this means?” First Mate Payton broke in, “We’re only a few miles from the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line”. Captain Phillips was prankish enough to take full advantage of the opportunity for achieving the navigational freak of a lifetime.

He called his navigators to the bridge to check & double check the ship’s position. He changed course slightly so as to bear directly on his mark. Then he adjusted the engine speed.

The calm weather & clear night worked in his favor. At mid-night the SS Warrimoo lay on the Equator at exactly the point where it crossed the International Date Line. The consequences of this bizarre position were many:

The bow of the ship was in the Southern Hemisphere & in the middle of summer.

The stern was in the Northern Hemisphere & in the middle of winter.

The date in the aft part of the ship was December 31, 1899.

The date in the forward part of the ship was January 1, 1900.

The ship was therefore concurrently in:

two different days,

two different months,

two different years,

two different seasons

and in two different centuries.

We're at -12F this morning, beautiful weather. Sun shining, little to no wind, the snow squeaks and brushes off instead of melting into my clothes, no humidity and NO FLYING INSECTS!

37°F here this morning. Yesterday it got up to 40°, which was the first time this week it got out of the 30's. That's unusual here, though people are still talking about the time in December 1983 when it stayed below freezing for 10 consecutive days.

Usually when we get a cold front it will be cold (at least cold for us) for about two days, then the temperature will go up 10 degrees each day until it gets up into the 70's and stays there until the next cold front.

yep, it's crazy cold. I just took a look at the outdoor temperature on my thermostat and it's registering -26°C (-15°F). Without a block heater, most car engines aren't happy when they are being cranked at such extreme temperatures.

I don't have problem with engine starting at -20C and below.

Now if you got an old battery, that's another problem.
For that I like AGM battery.

It took a while for mine to run fine saturday at -37C feels like -48C and my car is new, less then 1000KM traveled. Took about half an hour before it ran fine. There's also a video showing miners in Fermont up in Quebec and pretty much all vehicules wouldn't start and needed a Powerpack because of the cold.

Thankfully we're back to -5C today and should be alternating between -5C and 5C for the week.

I don't warm the engine up. I'll start it and clear the snow.

-20 never really caused issues for me, even when I had a 1996 Hyundai Accent. It's really the big spikes of temperature that do something. Like, going from -5 to -45 in 1 day is a lot harder on a car then going from -5 to -35 in a week.

When I read/watched the "how to enter ERs" I finally gained a toehold perspective on the whole 6W tag fiasco.

Take every kind of notion that might have a drop-down selection but let them all be editable so users can add new items to the dropdown list. Then take the text from every drop-down in the entire system and toss it in a bag, shake the bag and pick some out for your post. Now I can search post by tags, but there are so many tags I need a search tool for the tag bag so I know which tag to search for. Most decent applications take care of structuring these attributes, the SWYMp lets you sprinkle them out like glitter.

Honestly now, and no sarcasm, whoever tried to put together the "template" for the ER ideas did pretty good with what they were given to work with. They pretty much tried to implement several drop-downs.

Some people at Dassault are sending in ideas in a hidden community to try and put something in place and then deleting them. I have no idea what it is but my best guess would be what @bnemec said. Probably creating an ER system with drop downs that turns into tags. The tags seem pretty frivolous to me.

The tags would be useful if they turned on the functionality they've got in the main SW forum that lets your filter topics by subject.

And it seems they were testing the new submission form, which avoids the need for everyone to read instructions and follow some very odd steps to submit an idea "properly".

Note the subtle use of unsorted data, the oft truncated text, duplicated items (e.g. PDMWorks Enterprise and Enterprise PDM), ridiculously specific items (Open - Drawing), the inclusion of sub-areas within the area description (Tables - Revision Table), and on and on and on.......
