Inventor Import?

Unread post by MJuric »

I've got some old Inventor Files that I want to get into Solidworks. Single part import seems to work fine but assemblies do nothing or only import some parts, almost always "Purchased parts", which where probably STEPs to start with.

With 3D interconnect off the assembly files open only purchased parts as above but with it on I get the following error.

Any idea what lever's to pull, buttons to push to make this work?

Parts from any assembly come in fine. Purchased parts, bearings, seals etc, import from an assembly, but non of the parts when I have 3D interconnect off. When I have 3D on it gives me that error on the same assembly that it will import bearings etc with it off.

Maybe download the free trial, then open/save the asm as a STEP?

You could use a 3rd party software that might import better. Hopefully Fusion360 can import inventor files properly, then save as a neutral format as mentioned above.

It could be related to the supported IAM version. SW 3Dinterconnect supports IAM V11 and above files, check the help file https://help.solidworks.com/2021/englis ... _files.htm and then check your assembly file version.

Other reason could be the location. So copy the inventor files to a shorter path (having write access) and try again.
