Mates not deleting
Mates not deleting
I'm sure its a switch I'm missing...
After deleting a component from an assembly, the mates to that component DO NOT delete. They remain in the assembly with an error.
Is there a switch to stop this?

It is indeed.

Re: Mates not deleting
I'm usually all about having more options, but when trying to delete something there are so many different variables, depending on the situation, that in my opinion that pop-up shouldn't have the "Don't Ask Again" checkbox.

Re: Mates not deleting
Late reply, but do note that the "Delete Child Features" check box carries over between parts and assemblies.
Re: Mates not deleting
system options -> messages
show missing mates as error could help even if the delete dialog is not showing. not deleted mates are suppressed, but their calculation happens anyway causing slow downs when opening assemblies.

Re: Mates not deleting
We had some trouble with showing missing mates as errors. If we had configurations with suppressed components, we would get errors. I think this was SW2022 SP3.1, but I don't remember for certain. I just know we about lost our minds because one engineer (me) had that checked and another didn't. Took us quite a while to figure out why the tree suddenly turned red when it had been fine.
Re: Mates not deleting
those are indeed errors, but SW could HIDE them by suppression.
that causes slow downs and other performance problems.
when deleting mates you need to ctrl+q (better shift+ctrl+q) to check again the model mates consistency

Re: Mates not deleting
Yup. This is the worst. I've been in this place before. Many deleted parts and/or assemblies, as the design progresses.
Leaving a bunch of suppressed mates hanging around making a mess in the tree and playing hookey with resources..
Re: Mates not deleting
Did that used to be the default and then it got changed in a newer version where the don't delete them is now the default (unchecked)?
