PDM Icon missing from Notification Area

Unread post by SPerman »

The PDM Icon no longer appears in the taskbar notification area (windows 11.) Without that, I can't log out and switch to the admin account. It is not hidden, I have all icons showing. It is just not there anymore. Any ideas on how to get it back?

Right click taskbar and choose "Taskbar Settings". Browse down to "Other system tray icons" and make sure that either "Hidden icon menu" is turned on or that "Solidworks PDM" is turned on.

Edit: messed up on vs off

Is "EdmServer.exe" showing in your task manager details page?

Also, is it still enabled in "Startup Apps"?

Yes to both.

If it matters, both SW and PDM are 2022.

Check the task manager and see if explorer.exe or EdmServer.exe are running in elevated mode (you may have to add the 'Elevated' column). This is something that happens on some server operating systems. Maybe Windows 11 is doing something similar. If so, see QA00000125159 in the Knowledge Base for a possible fix.

Neither are running in elevated mode.

I don't see a service by that name.

I guess I will just write this off as another case of Solidworks being Solidworks. I made the changes I needed to make under the admin account. I was just hoping in the future I could change accounts without rebooting.

Thanks for your help.

A quick hack to restart the PDM process that I've used before is to:
1. Kill the EdmServer.exe task in the task manager
2. Select the Explorer.exe process and restart it

This is similar to logging out of your windows account and then back in.

Thanks. The only way I could figure out to log out was to turn off auto login and then reboot.
