Split command prompt - new solidworks document

Unread post by TRKemp »

This is new behavior since my 2024 install, but something i changed in my defaults / settings may be the culprit.

Have any of you seen this prompt when selecting the "SPLIT" command, and do you know how to disable it? It's a bit of a nuisance.

Thank you

Not sure why it is bringing up an assembly template (it should be a part template). But one of the options for the split command is saving out the bodies as separate part files.

If you don't have anything listed in your default templates location:

OR you have this selected:

Then it will prompt for a template to use when you save out the parts.

I see the same behavior in 2023 SP5.

I have never seen this on any version, I tend not to save out bodies from split but on some occasions do.

Currently on version 2024 sp5.

Probably worth checking what Dan says.

Thanks everyone.

Dan - i have my templates assigned and the option for "prompt user to select," so both are true statements. I have several different drawing templates, so its necessary to choose which one is needed, rather than let solidworks default to a single one. I agree with your sentiment about the assembly template, that was puzzling to me as well.

I can confirm, that once i change the selection to "always use these default document templates" the prompt goes away when executing the split command.

I'll mess around with it some more and see if I can find the way I had it set up originally.

The "Save Bodies" command has the option to attempt to create an assembly. So at first I thought that you were doing that. I am on SW 2022 though, so I tried to look up "whats new" for 2023 and 2024 to see if there was a new thing with the split command that automatically tried to create and assembly and I didn't see it.

So I don't know why it is prompting for an assembly template if you are doing the split command.
