Fresh reinstall Win10 & SWx V2023 SP5.0

So,

I've buggered up my Win10 install futzing around and it's time for a fresh reinstall. Yes, I've learned my lesson and have learned the wonders of VirtualBox for doing testing....

Due to the support of Win10 dying in the fall, I've proactively moved most of my applications (and definitely any needing intarwebz access) over to Linux boxes. If the support truly is cut off, I'll firewall the machine from the intarwebz.

At this juncture, I only have 1 Win10 box going.

I've done a settings backup, but will not use it for anything more than folder locations.

So, questions about a fresh Swx install:

1. Can Swx be installed without the Toolbox?
2. Can the settings for the plethora of file locations be set during install rather than the arcane, stupid way it does it without intervention?
3. How do I make certain it installs all the programming stuff for writing code in languages other than VBA?
4. How frequently does SWx call home?

1. SolidWorks can be installed using an already existing Toolbox but cannot be installed without it as far as I'm aware.
2. You could use the copy-settings wizard for this purpose.
3. When you are proceeding with the install and it offers you the standard installation or custom, click on custom or whatever and then select and remove all that you want/don't want.
4. All depends on you. During the install, it asks you "Would you like SolidWorks to check for updates". You can tell it to not check for updates and then turn off background download or something like that and you'll be set to go.

2. Save your settings in running Solidworks and restore it after install.
Do run Solidworks after install, close it, restart and restore setting.
SW setup registry on first run. Restoring setting before that will totally screw everything up.

You stated 2023 in the post title... Therefore your install is subject to annual reactivation. There is (or was anyway) a method to reactivate by email for air-gapped systems.

Well, they have softened the TPMS 2.0 a bit, but there still is a brick wall of processor type. My machine, which is perfectly adequate for what I use it for, is un-worthy of an upgrade due to the processor.

I had toyed with the idea of using Rufus to do a "forced" install of W11, but the little man in my head tells me that our "friends" at MS will soon get wise to that and the forced install would not receive future updates, which would make it no better that an unsupported W10.

In any event, I've got a some time to sort all this out. I "might" just be willing to pay for support assuming the tariff isn't too dear.

So,

I got everything all setup. What a PITA.

Purposely, I did not import my settings from last time.

Man, there is a lot of stuff I had turned off over the years.

Thanks to all who provided support.

And yeah, I did a disk backup.

I've already had to use my backup....

I installed Media Monkey on the box and it buggered up all my Windows Explorer previews, which is predominantly why I did this reinstall.
