Unread post by Frank_Oostendorp »

Trying to collect all tips for proper install of SolidWorks, keeping in mind multiple versions would have to operate on the same WorkStation.

I had problems a few years ago with some options not showing up in left-click menus. I was advised by the VAR tech support person that when installing a new version it's best to un-install all existing versions, install the new one, then re-install the new one(s).

Is this the kind of thing you have in mind?

All tips welcome, Glenn.
However, I used to build a number on installs from old to new, accepting that some add-ins would only work with the latest version.
Now the rubbish installed gets more and more. I can't control a number of locations where install data is saved. Might be somebody knows the trick?

Create work folder for each version for all SW files: template, style, etc:
folder.jpg
You'll need to remember to use files with correct version so you don't "contaminate" them.
Backup to another drive is highly recommended.

Set Data and Temp folders:
SWInstallFolder-01.jpg
Work folder:
SWInstallFolder-02.jpg
Collect all SW related files:
SWInstallFolder-03.jpg
The first 2 times will be tough. You'll miss files. Mixed different versions. Open and save across different versions.
After that you should work out your work flow.
You'll need to pay attention to file reference. Check them before you save.

Thanks Frederick,
amazes me no Dassault, SolidWorks or VAR expert can help with this.

Are you able to run the multiple versions of Visualize and CAM add-ins as well?

I don't use visualize or CAM.
Looks like CAM install under SW 20xx folder. It might work.

If this won't work, try virtual machine.
One VM for each version.
It could have other problem.
