You essential get a tag search built in.
That's pretty much exactly what it's like. So for the most part I don't have a problem with tags in and of themselves. I think it's less efficient, more difficult for users to understand and use, but if used properly they work just fine.

The problem is how they have been implemented. Having users being able to create primary and secondary tags is akin to allowing users to create their own sub forums which would quickly become absolute chaos....oh wait.

I vote for tertiary tags, too:

If the tags never quite get you what you are looking for aren't they then asymptotic?

I don't pretend to know what Frederick is talking about. That's pretty normal.

What he's showing is called Process Explorer, a superior Task Manager replacement that is available for free from Microsoft Sysinternals. It's a very useful IT tool. I like to show all my processor cores (CTRL+I) and monitor when it's being slammed while working with a Solidworks drawing, mostly so that I can wait until it is done for the moment.

He's saying he uploaded a perfectly looking screenshot on the SWAMP and that the SWAMP compressed the image conciderably to the point of making it unreadable. The image he posted is the result of the download of the image he had previously uploaded to the SWAMP.

He was.

Fred uploaded it to the disruptive innovative platform, and it got compressed.

Omur asked him what he was talking about but I'm not sure if he was refering to the SWYMP or the Process Explorer.

No I not use 3DS because i give it a try but not easy to understand. I ask support, if I want to leave 3DS for another PLM is it easy take out all files? the say no, one have to take out file by file, but they work on a solution.

Today I use Onedrive storing files and excel for my numbers, but only me in company right now.

Just a short question.

What is the difference between 3D Experience Solidworks and 3D Experience Catia? It's not clear for me!

I might not be the best one to answer this but...

3DExperience SOLIDWORKS, (or i believe it is called SOLIDWORKS CONNECT few years ago?) is similar to SOLIDWORKS desktop but it is connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform where you will have additional functionality (and limitation)
https://www.javelin-tech.com/blog/2020/ ... connected/

Not sure about CATIA, but it should work in a similar way

For quite some time I had a similar all though smaller question of "Uhhh....what is 3DExperience?". When you look at the information available, sales, web site etc etc the answer is so convoluted, vague and meaningless that you tend to walk away more confused than when you started. I asked this question several times on the old forum and new.

So from the various responses this is my understanding.

"3D experience" would be better compared to an operating system/Platform or possibly a "Plug-in" than an application. 3D experience is essentially DS's attempt to create a part of any software that is geared toward "Collaboration". This collaboration comes in the form of "Creating teams", "Sharing files", "Group/Team discussion areas" and so on. Again, from what I can tell despite being part of the name 3D experience has nothing to do with the actual software operation.

So for instance you could create "3D Experience World of Warcraft". It would be the same as WoW, except now you would have a more complex, largely confusing system that locks up and crashes all the time for the messaging system. You would also have a different mail system that would allow people to group together that could send out mass E-mails...but that would probably only work 50% of the time as well.

3D Experience Solidworks is Desktop Solidworks with this added "Collaboration feature". They have tried to "Sweeten the pot" by selling this as a suite with other "Applications" that offer other functionality, but the Solidworks is the same. I would assume the same is true for Catia or anything else they decide to add "3D experience" in front of.

In the end this is large a MASSIVE sales gimic. If they tried to sell "3D Experience" as the stand alone application that it really is no one would buy it. Instead they are essentially doing what Microsoft Did with Internet Exploder and attempting to force everyone to use it by making it "An integral part of" every piece of software when in in fact there are far better replacement options to do the same thing.

anyway, my two cents and understanding.

Yeah, this is just Desktop bundled with the connectors, space on the site, and 3 creator (xdesign)......one seat for near the cost of a new seat of SolidWorks Standard. This doesn't include the coming drawing and sheet metal apps. Imagine it will get more expensive then.

That is absolutely insane! Thirty-eight hundred dollars!?!?! That level of 3DX is comparable to Solid Edge Design and Drafting (the lowest level) which runs for......................wait for it.....................$900/year. Even SE Premium (which has full-blown FEA, routing, wiring and electrical, PCB design, and even cloud-based collaboration) runs for $3940/year.

I can't see why ANYONE would go the 3DX route if SWX Desktop fell off a cliff tomorrow. I mean, it's like DSS actually wants to go out of business.....

There's a pretty significant list of "things that don't work with 3DExpereince solidworks INCLUDING almost all "3rd party" apps. Early on the toolbox didn't even work with it but supposedly it does now.

Neither CAMWorks nor Driveworks works with it the last time I looked a couple months ago.

Like all thing DS it's "Release it, sell it as "The greatest thing on the planet", make it work later"

Eventually I suspect it will have all the capabilities that the desktop version does, but right now it simply isn't ready for prime time.

Somehow the company has completely missed that their release cycle has been a failure for a long time.

Release "new" feature that only kind of sort of works.
Watch early adaptors say "this doesn't work yet. Don't use it."
Wonder why for the next 5 years no one uses this new feature, even though you've finally got it usable.
Go online and read over and over "Feature X doesn't work. Avoid it."

Ok, but they've been working on it for a long time now and have been pushing it to the unwilling customers and pushing the VARs to push it as well. Even though it's not ready for release? I only took a few CS/SE classes in college, but at that time if a student would submit a lab or assignment that was not completed and did not meet the requirements it was a failure.

It just baffles me how they can get in front of tens of thousands of people hocking something that's half-baked then don't understand why people are laughing. Reminds me of a comedian I heard long time ago:

I've been saying for a while that I think it would make more sense to take a year or two off developing "New" features and just go thru and fix all the bugs, inconsistencies and make it as rock solid stable as possible.

Instead they are pouring money into development of new features that either only fit a niche part of their user base or is a solution in hunt of a problem.

I had heard him tell that story before, but it was decades ago. Thanks for posting it.

SolidWorks Mechanical Conceptual later rebranded Xdesign, since 2013-14 and still missing in action for the most part. They need to study Onshape's business model as I think Dassault development suffers from some serious scope creep.

Nothing like some Jerry Clower for some "perspective".

One has to wonder if they even have a roadmap. They either change course every year or two, or they are just wandering aimlessly with no real direction.
