Matt's a great guy, he came over to see us when I was throwing my fit over the issues they had and he was very understanding and apologetic. As far as I know, he's a Product Definition Manager in the R&D department of SW.

Yeah I've met him a couple times at SWW for some beta stuff. He was asking how I thought I would get from "a" to "b", not like some of the other people saying "This is how you should do it". In other words, asking how the user thinks, not how the programmer thinks. Refreshing approach for a user experience......

I find it mostly unusable. Kind of looks like facebook, but worse functionality.

It is really, really bad..

Even this type of forum can get to a "Too Much Info" situation, where it can be difficult to find stuff, right now being new and all, it's not bad. In fact it's really good compared to the swamp of a swym and all the regulars swam away.

Trying to go over the stuff that came in over the last 4 days is sick, sick, sick, just sit there and scroll and scroll some more, ridiculous.. Oh, and did you see the ad hoc they slipped in, really, now we need to wade through that stuff, we knew that was coming.

How can anyone actually use the 3DExperience? It's incomprehensible / unusable.
Not going to waste much more time on it. Too much work. I'll stay here.
It even makes the normal scroll bar on the side of my browser go away, and replaces it with a sketchy extra thin one that doesn't work as well.

I used to think Jive was the worst forum software I experienced.

The "New Whatever" - (it's not even a forum but a platform to run a "Feed System") - is designed around a Marketing Ploy or Marketing Scheme, at the same time set up an "ACT" of we are here to Help You.... It truly is disgusting

That might bring it back to current.

If it's programmed like what 3DSWYM is meant to be similar to, then it will load the original front page, then start scrolling down until it reaches the bottom.

Since the SolidWorks userbase hasn't really gravitated over, all of these changes seem like an attempt to convert the userbase.

I'm amazed with how well they import the threads.
With names and links. Well links don't work now but could work later.

Nail on the head. Now the negative posts like the kitty dump can't dominate the top spot. They can just stream their marketing spam.

I did finally find the post above after searching. Since it started 2 weeks ago......its so far down there is no way to just browse and discover it. Which is the whole problem with social media and tags. There is no way to really browse. You have to search and have some idea of what you're looking for.

That place is far more FUBAR then even I could have imagined it could be and I'm a very large pessimist. Today I go and search for something and nothing associated with what I searched appeared. I decided "Hey, Tags". So I go look for tags...there are 7. What to my wondering eyes should appear? My name is a tag. So I decide to search with that tag. One post came up that had no tags on it....how does that work?

I also spent a few minutes looking for a "List of tags" because they don't exist in the tags. Couldn't find one.

Nearly nothing comes up when you search for something and almost nothing from the old forums. Alin was asking about the "Power user" threads. I think two out of all of them actually come up regardless of what you search.

How does something end up this screwed up? I can't seem to find anything over there that works all the time and a bunch of things that should work don't work at all including the "Now you can search from google and get to posts"

I've done some searches recently that lead me to the old solidworks forum. You get a single post of the thread. (The first post, maybe?)

I sure am glad they implemented the google search capability.

They're redirecting old forum URL to new SwYmP.
Pretty Interesting.
Now, will Google retain the old search results?
You can use your old bookmark and get into the SwYmP.
Of course only threads in there could be view.

As you pointed out earlier, the fact that they're able to use the same olds links to bring them to the new platform is something to be applauded, I don't think I've ever seen anyone succesfully manage this so far.

Hopefully the next step is programming a seperate module to the platform which will be used as a forum, rather then ask people to use the platform as the replacement to a forum.

Sure, the threads aren't displaying right, right now, and I'm sure that puts them to shame. But I'm also sure that they're still working on trying to get that fixed, because it is somewhat a crucial part of the transition.

This will, at some point, take you to the actual post. Their implementation is incredibly awful, but they are working to make improvements.

They have a lot of work to do.

Maybe the plan was to have job security for those social media programmers that know what we need better than what we've been telling them but they are too stupid and stubborn to listen even though we've been yelling and yelling and telling and telling, oh what Seussian rant I am on, without a proper period to end this long, oh what a mess I am, if I get ten times messier perhaps I can Swym.

This is their only real hope of fixing the 3DSwamp forum, to give us what want. It has been suggested MANY times.

This seems to be classic DSS. Force something on the users that isn't even in Beta stage, and then spend the next 3 years letting the users debug the system for them.

I've just noticed something that has immediately become possibly the most irritating aspect of that place.

The 6W Tags aren't 6 Ws, it's 5 W's and an H.
