Take a look at Ryan Priddy's category list, no Kitty Dump, Quotes, What You Listen Too, Surely No Pets Allowed, What You Drink, all the Negative WHY's - kind a what I expected. The replacement for all the above will be useless Marketing Shoved Down Our Gullets...

Because most assuredly everyone that logs onto the forum will not only read the wiki, but decide the "Proper" tag(s) to apply so that everyone can find the posts at a future date. The fact that this is not mandatory is ridiculous and the fact that someone has to go look at the list and then decide where it should be is short of unusable. Here and every forum I've ever been at you log in and are faced with "Places to put stuff that make sense" and STILL people post things in the wrong place. This approach is largely worthless.

This is one of the silliest ideas that they hang their hat on like its a GOOD thing. It reminds me of my very first CAD class in college.

The instructor was praying and hoping that he didn't have to teach Computer 101 before teaching CAD 101. So, he asks for a show of hands of those who are experienced and who know how to use a computer. Everyone in the class raises their hands. He breathes a sigh of relief and says we'll skip the computer basics then, that will speed things up. He then says, "Ok, lets start a new drawing by going to File > New..." Immediately THREE hands shoot up. He calls on one..."How do I do that?" :?

As you pointed out earlier, the fact that they're able to use the same olds links to bring them to the new platform is something to be applauded, I don't think I've ever seen anyone succesfully manage this so far.

Hopefully the next step is programming a seperate module to the platform which will be used as a forum, rather then ask people to use the platform as the replacement to a forum.

Sure, the threads aren't displaying right, right now, and I'm sure that puts them to shame. But I'm also sure that they're still working on trying to get that fixed, because it is somewhat a crucial part of the transition.
What you wrote is very accurate, Alex. The users' reaction was heard loud and clear, albeit rather late. The work that the R&D team is doing right now is nothing short of astonishing. They found a solution for the Google Search which will work (and that was always considered impossible), they will put together a new ER procedure for gathering, brainstorming, prioritizing and tracking user-ideas for writing a forum app for this community.
I am impressed! 8-)
Once the new ER tool will be up (I hope that will be along the lines of a TTL), it will be much easier to tell them what is wrong and how to fix them. At the very least, we will get the confirmation that we are heard.

The funny and sad thing is that currently users are heard but they do not get immediate acknowledgement that it is happening and that someone acts on fulfilling their wishes. It is a communication problem that needs to be fixed. And... the good news is that is being fixed... :)

We are there because of Solidworks!

Aha, got it. So, you are saying that, due to the nature of the platform, ERs are easier and faster to implement on the platform than on the desktop software.

And they are only responding to platform changes.
SW desktop changes are still "in the 90's".

All focus is on the "platform". Nothing else.
We need to get focus back to Solidworks.
Not just "fixing the platform".
Fix Solidworks.
We are using SW for production, not the platform. Even that's what DS try to sell.

Now getting "off topic".
Maybe get platform ER to handle all app ER/SPR. It should be good for VAR.

Hang tight guys... @Alin has spoken wise words, there is a lot going down, however there were quite a few things that happened that SW/DSS didn't foresee, mainly the reaction of the Old SW Forum Users. I will still go with my comments here.... https://www.cadforum.net/viewtopic.php?p=3296#p3296

Yeah, it does that from time to time., but they are indeed fixing a lot of these little issues, and rather quickly, so you might want to bring it up to Ryan.

I do as little as possible on there, it is my means of putting pressure onto them. And by as little as possible, I try not to respond to threads. If I do, I respond only once, and without images.

Well, we users have made a LOT of noise and it appears that DSS/SWX is listening. https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexp ... H8lSCqMXZw

They need to make big changes fast. I would prefer if they released a list of what/when they will do and what they will not do.

That post has been around for well over a week. I have yet to see a significant change that goes the direction a forum requires. I have seen them fix a bunch of things, but they are all related to 3DSWYM's functionality and not what it's lacking to be used as a forum.

I want to see a real post of theirs, that sums up what change they will implement going forward with the forums on their platform. Nothing points towards a complete overhaul, or even the concideration of a forum.

I've said it and I'll say it again. A platform is not a forum and a forum is not a platform. A platform hosts a forum, they are distinctive.

To be honest, I think it is a bit too late...
One of my co-worker just login to the SWYMP for the first time as he is trying to find some answer for his question... 2 min later he gave up and ask me what wrong with SOLIDWORKS nowadays (Things dont work and now finding answer is even harder)...

A lot of us had highlighted issues since 1 month ago and a lot of the major ISSUE is still there...
Some issue had been highlighted since TTL been moved to the SWYMP but no action taken AT ALL.
I am no web programmer or designer, but with my basic understanding in programming, a LOT of issue seem to be able to be fixed real quick...

I know they might be on a tight schedule to migrate stuff.. but

If they really want to fix it, have them release a DEVELOPER MEMO every week.
With that people can see where things is going, what is being fix and what is being drop, and maybe even point them to the RIGHT direction...

It really pain me to see what had been happening all these while...

Can we turn back time to when we are still excited about our CAD tools?

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, WE KNOW WHAT WE NEED, and that do not involve placing basket of egg in the cloud

Roasted By John wrote: Fri Apr 09, 2021 7:24 am Hang tight guys...
So, I've tried to be diplomatic, helpful, but also direct at 3DSwym. The question remains, who was naive enough to think that their carefully curated focus group of old forum users, who told them EXACTLY what was wrong, did not represent the rest of the forum userbase?

It appears that there was a person or people that was insulating upper management from the "harsh" criticism of this group. There is a pinned post that indicates there may FINALLY be some movement. It's WAY to early to proclaim success, though. One wonders if the "impediment" to the proper flow of direction to DS/SW is now involved in the "impediment" of this forum. Just me speculating.

This will end up ok, right now there is no timeline posted, but I think they will as soon as today. Keep in mind that DSS is a huge wheel, it takes a lot to stop and turn around, which is basically what they need to do. Not reporting their status is something that I don't like, be transparent.

If they had been transparent from the start, ALL this mess should never happen...
I really hope they had learnt from this.

The era of good feelings is over IMHO. It ended when SWWorld was decapitated. (Or when the icon color was changed....)

There is movement now and that is all we can hope for, this situation will bring out their true colors..

Think about it this way, one of my quotes that I repeated many times "There will always be issues, it's how those issues are handled is what makes the difference"

+1 John. The reporting, brainstorming, prioritizing and tracking implementation should be a priority.

Big Corporations have no idea on transparency and no this won't be in the books as a "Lesson of What Not To Do" - they will always need to be strong armed, why, because of how these big guys are setup, the people below are only puppets, once the puppets get beat up or are dead, do they even just look out the window, just how it is...

I was seriously hoping they could revert their decision to hide everything behind a login wall...
Bummer.

Bummer.
again (as i can also see a little here too) some are "america-center-of-the-world" thinking in DS

thousands, maybe millions of users work with SW, without passing CWSP-thingy-and-others,
and don't have any SW-account...

The focus is group is not pulling any punches. Believe me, I know.

DSS/SWX is definitely listening. They are even implementing (finally) some of the changes we've been screaming about. However, some of the big changes they need to make are virtually impossible within the framework of the 3DSwamp platform. It has been suggested many, many times that they buy or build a real forum system and link to it through their 3DSwamp.

I am hopeful, but honestly not optimistic, that they will ever fix their mess. The big cheeses that are making the decisions have never used a forum! They are looking at the 3DSwamp as a powerful marketing tool and are oblivious to what we are asking for. It is astounding the level of "I say I hear you and understand, but really I'm not and I don't" that is coming from the management involved in this mess.

The things we are asking for are not technical impossibilities. The reason the 3DSwamp forum is the way it is is entirely the result of decisions. Those decisions can be changed. The Google indexing is a perfect example.

As people have said, "When you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging." This should be on the wall and the screen backdrop of everyone involved at DSS/SWX, just as the SWX software developers said ONE and TWO was for them.

I am literally and figuratively from Missouri - they will have to "Show Me". They need to make big changes fast and tell us what they are going to do and when. In order to win back some trust this is the least they can do. They did not avail themselves of our guidance and now they are experiencing our wrath. It is justified.
