Maddening Mate Folders..!

Unread post by Damo »

Call me crazy if applicable.
I have noticed something new in the 2021 vers. (I cannot say or really recall if I've had this occur in older/previous versions, tho I do not believe so..)
I am noticing random folders appearing in my feature tree for assembly mates .
I do understand mate folders can be useful. I've used them myself in the past to group certain mates together for various reasons like configurations or particular movement actions, etc.
But what I am seeing here is arbitrary folder creation and grouping of seemingly random mates..?!?!?
Is there a setting I am overlooking..?
Is there a new functionality I am not properly comprehending..?

Am I the only one experiencing this..?

PS..While on the subject of mates. Does anyone else feel the mates are becoming more "Intuitive" (read: doing what they "think" you want, rather than what you would expect.?)
ie. When modifying an existing mate it's flipping entire components or breaking/modifying existing mates instead of simply moving the component in the logically expected direction to suit new selection criterion.?

I've been using SW2021 since shortly after sp 0.0 was released and have never seen that behavior, and I don't remember seeing anyone else mention it on the forums.

Howdy @mike miller,

I've been using SW since 2009 and didn't know you could do that. Thanks for teaching me something (though I'll admit it took me a few minutes to figure out).

You couldn't do that until SW2019, so it's a relatively new thing.

Is there any chance a hotkey was set to generate a new folder that you are accidentally triggering?

Hmmmm. Interesting..
I certainly haven't set one.. If there was a Hotkey of Keyboard shortcut set to do this it would be a new additional "Feature" .
If it is, I wanna turn that s#1t off..
So, I looked thru all the keyboard shortcut settings and could not find anything relevant.

Cheers tho..

I swear my install is haunted.. <()>

At the bottom of assembly constraints properties there is a check box "add to a new folder" or something like that in English (I am using a localized ver of SW). Probably it stays checked by accident, try to uncheck it once and reapply a constraint to see if the setting reverts back or not.

SW is bad: a fact not an opinion.

That is done by right-clicking on the Mates folder and selecting Group Mates > By Status from the drop-down.

THIS..!! ... I reckon this is my culprit.

Well done Mr. mp3-250 Thank you mate..!

This box was checked..
And, I definitely did NOT do that..

And tho I do not recall seeing it before, it seems it has been there since at least 2014, Wow..!!
I've absolutely never used this option previously.
Even so, I have unselected it as of now in my 2021 version and hope that I wont have this stoopid "Feature" frustrate me again.. :D

Mike, As Ben said, this is indeed pretty cool.
I reckon I will be doing this a lot now.

I'm so glad you showed me this..
