how to stay in camera view while editing?

I want to edit my model while in camera view. It keeps popping me out of the camera every time I try to change geometry. I've tried using multiple viewports & multiple windows. I would even be happy if it reactivated the camera view after the edit was complete.
Anyone figured this out?

I found a workaround that requires making an assembly to house a camera and your actual working assembly. Then you can open your subassembly in another window to perform edits and it will not pop out of the camera in the top level assembly while also showing edits on rebuild.

Can you share a screen shot of what you mean?
Here are some guesses:
1) You have this selected:
2) You have some geometry out in space somewhere and when it zooms to extents, it includes it.
3) You have Perspective mode on
4) You have a graphics card issue.

No need to do that. You can add a second viewport to show the camera view independent of your model window.
Window...Viewport...Two View - Horizontal.

I set my scene background to a photo that was taken by the customer. I then created a camera and positioned it so that my model's perspective and scale match that of the scene background. Now if it was possible to edit the model while inside the camera I could simply drag surfaces and edges around until it aligned with the scene background photo. Then my cad model would match the real world scene.
Using a secondary shield assembly wasn't too bad. I just had to activate that window for it to show the changes though.
@JSculley I tried that, but as soon as I add a sketch or edit underlying dim it kicks out of camera view. I am on 2018.

What if, instead of adding a viewport, you add a whole new window?
Try this:
- image.png (10.72 KiB) Viewed 801 times
This will create a whole separate window to view the part in that may not have the same issues as a viewport would.

Did not seem to change the behavior. Thanks all for looking at this.

yeah, sadly, no.
SW Corp never quite gets the world where people want to design in real perspective space.
sad....
