Before someone hit me with the drawing handbook, i understand the best practice is to extend the dimensions outside the model wherever possible, but sometimes i just would like to call out the dimension for some quite snapshot etc

Is it possible to create dimension with filled background in drawing/part view?

Do you want to try this with fonts?

this could be one option... what is the font used in the first image?

I don't believe you can, like it's done in AutoCAD.
I tried adding a solid hatch as a substitute for Shaded with Edges, but halos are only for non-solid hatches.

If you add a rectangle with a solid white hatch, or whichever hatch color you prefer, you can just position it behind the dimension text. Is this not what you're wanting? I understand you can't group it with the text, but in the rare case(s) that you'd need it, it seems like a simple solution. I could be misunderstanding, though.
