Export drawing / image as Shaded with Edges + Shaded

Hi everyone,

I am glad to have found this forum with so much content and help. I was trying to find info on how to export drawings as Shaded with edges and Shaded, but did not find any topic that fit this description.

I have the latest SolidWorks build installed and I can export drawings fine as exploded view with "hidden lines removed", but cannot seem to do the same when the modell / assembly is in Shaded with Edges or just Shaded.

What could I be doing wrong?

Saving the image as a PDF, turns the image to a low-resolution image, and saving as *.dxf, just makes another line drawing.

Go to System Options>Export> File Format: PDF, and see if your settings match mine.

Hi Mike, thank you for your quick answer. I checked the settings, and they were like yours, I tried to export the image and I got this result:

I went back and change the settings to 300 dpi instead of 96, and got this result:

Image

- which is so much better, but the lines are very thick on the whole image. How can I change them?

In 600 dpi it looks like this:

It is easy to change the thickness of lines in Illustrator when I have a dxf-file, but is it possible to change in SolidWorks instead, before the export has happened?

I tried to open the exported PDF-file in Illustrator, and it opened fine, but since the shaders are on the top, I cannot change the thickness of lines that easy, using "same appearance".

Any help on this matter would be very appreciated.

EDIT!

I found the "Line Font Menu" and changed the settings there to 0.18mm instead of 0.25mm, and the result is better. When I tried the "Custom option", I could not change down to 0.12mm from 0.18mm.

It is possible to change the line thickness in the document properties. I'm not sure which one will affect the behavior.

Thank you for your help and support. I was able to fix all of the issues; exporting to PDF in 600 dpi did the trick with Shaded with edges, and in Illustrator all the coloured parts are marked as <clip group>. Closing these and then selecting the artwork I was able to make the lines as thin as I wanted, and then turn on the layers again.
