Solidworks Crashes??

If I write something in the search bar on the top of the feature tree and hit the little "x" on the left or attempt to delete the text in the search bar Solidworks simply closes, no warning at all!!

Does anyone else have this issue?
I am running SW 2021 SP01.

I don't have that problem with 2020 SP5.

I did that just today, and no crash.

I'm using SW2021 SP2.0. and I could not recreate this crash either.
With part or assembly, both worked fine.
Tho, asssembly was slow and clunky, the text took longer to apper than the time to type the words and it did hang for a few seconds..
But it succeeded and did not crash. Each of the several times, and models, I tried.
(And, yes I'm pleasantly surprised. 2021 has seemed to me to be rather "fragile..")

Perhaps SP2.0 will fix this issue for you.

I'm still way back at 2018 and it doesn't crash here either.

Have you tried it in other assemblies? Is it repeatable regardless?

I tried it again this morn and it works fine and great. I guess SW was simply feeling ornery yesterday.

When I first started using SW I was told by a long time user that the first course of action with SW when anything happens that seems a bit off is to shut SW down and reboot. That advice has saved me a lot of time and a lot of headache.

I've never used a piece of software that will do so many weird things and continue to run without giving an error or indication that something is seriously wrong. It's also nearly impossible to discern between a "Yeah YOU did something wrong" type of errors and "Well SW is hosed" type of errors.

Looking at everyone saying they're not having the issue leads me to think that perhaps you have a hidden message that causes the crash.

I have heard (hearsay alert) that solar flares can cause bits to flip in your registry that will sometimes cause weird problems that persist until a reboot.

Get your grains of salt ready, because I heard it from a Goengineer employee........ :?

That solar flairs stuff sounds a bit suspicious. :D

I think I've heard that too.....also know as SPRs (Solar Pretend Reason)

Solidworks 2021 SP5 and I don't have the crashing issue, but when I use the feature tree search/filter, it runs REALLY slow...perhaps related? When you type something in, how long are you waiting for results? I'd estimate it's probably ~30 seconds.

Also yes, random bit flipping is 100% a thing. It's common enough that most storage devices have built in error corrections for it. Solar flares are not always the cause tho, it can occur from any high-energy particle, usually caused by something striking the Earth's atmosphere
