PDM how to edit variables that are "Read Only" on the data card?

We occasionally have wrong data on data card variables. When the control on the data card that shows the variable is set to read only, and it's not mapped to a custom property, I cannot find a way to edit it (as an admin function).

I thought maybe I could add a tab to the couple existing tabs on the data card and use tab control logic to only allow admins to see that tab, then put the variable on that tab but not as read only. I had trouble with this and looked up the help:

I don't understand, it sounds like this only works if I have only one other tab and leave its name blank?

Yes. The blank tab will be shown unless you are a member of the group named on some other tab. Normally, my card looks like this:

If I'm logged in as a member of the 'Vault Admins' group, it looks like this:

The 'Admin Info' panel on the bottom contains any fields I might want to tweak manually.

In the card editor it looks like this. A blank panel for the regular users:

And the admin panel for admins:

@JSculley Thank you for the instructions. I was running into the wall made of my own mental blocks.
