Look at sketches and features in assembly components without checking them out.

We have PDM and much of the time we use components and assemblies that are in Released state or at least not going to be checking out. For example, I'm reviewing an assembly and I want to see how features or sketches were made in a component in that assembly. I can open the part from the assembly and view sketches just fine but if I try to edit(view) a sketch of a part from the assembly I get this error:

Is there a way to open a sketch to view it or to view feature properties from the assembly or do I need to always open the part?
