Is there a way to highlights parts from a BOM table?

Unread post by Mike Gera »

Say you have a BOM table and don't know what item #9 is. There is no Description property data for the item and the part number isn't making sense.

Is there a way to highlight all "item #9's" in a BOM-linked drawing view?

Note: I do know how to fly out to the left in the BOM table and see the item thumbnail. That alone doesn't always crack the case, however.

Thanks for any help.

Clicking on the row should highlight the components in the view and the feature tree (if expanded)

Change the colour of item#9 in the BOM.

Maybe use the same color for the corresponding balloon.

Another option is if the part number column in the BOM is the actual SolidWorks file name right clicking on it should give you the option to open the file.

Thanks, that worked. I never knew of that feature!

For some reason, though, it only works for parts and not assemblies. Does that sound accurate?

Yes, but in a big assembly, sometimes that's not enough to figure out where the part is used.

Seems to work for assemblies on my end. I'm on 2019 SP5.

I prefer to just use the Open part command from the right click menu on the BOM part/assembly and edit the customized fields as need in the part.

For some reason, mine only works with parts. Strange.
