Custom Properties - can not edit
Custom Properties - can not edit
I just installed SW2022 SP5 a few weeks ago (upgrade from from 2021). Now when I import an model (STEP file) I can not edit the custom properties, they are all greyed out. I can re-add them under the configuration tab which will take precedence over the regular custom tab ones, but I can not create or edit the ones under the standard custom tab. IS this new behavior in 2022?

Could you be using a design table that drives those properties?TTevolve wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 11:38 am I just installed SW2022 SP5 a few weeks ago (upgrade from from 2021). Re: Custom Properties - can not edit
Nope, no design table. I am making a mounting bracket for a Starlink receiver, I downloaded their model (.stp), I opened it with SW and picked my template for importing, which has my standard custom properties in it.
All the fields are grayed out and I can't edit them. I can't even delete any of them.

This is a .STP opening in 3DInterconnect. If you want to edit it, save it as as solidworks file and then try again, should work.

Instead, just break the link.AlexLachance wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2023 1:26 pm This is a .STP opening in 3DInterconnect. If you want to edit it, save it as as solidworks file and then try again, should work.
RMB on the part of the tree with the little green arrow and select break link.
This will break its link with the STP file.

Thanks guys. I never had a issue where it kept it as a STEP file in 2021 and previous versions.
Re: Custom Properties - can not edit
Yea, I didn't like it, so I had it turned off. I forgot they put it on by default.

As far as I know, Solidworks uses a different translation algorithm when 3DInterconnect is turned on than when it is turned off.
From my experience, turning it on (for complex parts) gives you a MUCH more robust translation (with respect to STP files) that with having it off.
Test it out.

Yes, the translator is Inventor.DanPihlaja wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:29 pm As far as I know, Solidworks uses a different translation algorithm when 3DInterconnect is turned on than when it is turned off.

I believe Alin talked about it in his import model work flow.
