BOM custom property

Unread post by Bryan O »

This is a multi layer question.
I was asked by our builders to add assembly order to our drawings.
I thought it might be good to add an "ASSEMBLY ORDER" column to our BOM

I would like to add the column
have the column be a manual entry
have the balloon split with the lower reading the manually entered value.

Is this an well thought out solution?
How do I do that (if it is a good solution)
How else do others handle similar situations?

In my opinion, the engineering drawing should be a separate resource than what the assembling personnel use. They should have a work instruction that details each step in the correct order with callouts for torque, loctite, and other process specific information.

I understand the thought process behind this, but my company did this in the past with engineering prints doubling as work instructions with step by step exploded views. The number of times those prints had to be revised over the years to change one small assembly specific detail after another was WAY too many.

I agree with @AlexB . If you are going to do that, I'd make it a separate document so that you don't have to revise your drawing whenever someone wants the assembly instructions changed.
