Just I thought I would open an older surfacing model I worked way back in 2005. It was one of the first complex models I had ever worked with and is horribly built but I thought, lets see what 2021 does with it.

File: Die cast light housing
Size: 24mb
Last saved in: SolidWorks 2005
Configurations: 1 (default)
Number of features: 528

Surprisingly, it opened fairly fast, only about 2 seconds. Interesting to see the rebuild time recorded in 2005, 62 seconds.

A rebuild resulted in one fillet losing two edges. When editing the fillet there was one edge still selected but I couldn't find where the other two were (This was before edges were recorded in a way so that missing edges would show in red). Since it was a warning I could proceed, I think some previous fillet must've run more "fully" and absorbed the old edges. I compared the area to the pre-rebuilt geometry and there appears to be no difference. Again, the model tree is a travesty, I'm almost embarrassed to show it but I had fillets way too early. In my defense I wasn't the only one working on it and was brought in to "help" make it work.

Force rebuild in 2021: 8.26 seconds. Amazing how fast computers have gotten. Or are there some SolidWorks rebuild efficiencies gained through the years? Can't test that I'm afraid.

I saved the file in 2021 format. New file size: 9mb. Quite a difference. Rebuild is about the same.

When used SWX 2018v I usually got a warning sign. Now I use 2020v I am not getting any warning sign.
