Sheet metal Miter Flange

After so many years using SW for our sheet metal products, I still am not able to make Miter flange work on our parts.
A very simple file is attached. Can anybody explain why I can not flatten this part.

Any kind of advice is much appreciated.

I suspect that it is because your folded flange is shorter than the parent body edge...
And your setting created overlap..?

I changed the setting..

Now it will flatten..!

But that's not the result I need.
In 5 degree, you don't see the difference. Change 5 degree to 30 and this is what you have.
Apparently it's different with my design.

Ok. So when I changed the bend angle to 30deg in the sketch, and nothing else, It flattened as it should.
But I do notice the little overlap slit for the internal radius that enabled the bend disappeared in the flat pattern.
So it may not bend in real life as expected.

In your last post, it looks tho you've changed that setting for your recent pics.

I thought this was your question..

Perhaps I misunderstand your question... And what you are hoping to achieve.

(I do also notice, your bend radius is VERY small for your sheet thickness, does this work for you normally..?)

@Damo , I really appreciate the time you put on this.

Yes, we produce several thousands parts with this radius every year.
This is one of many toosl we use:

Yes that was my question. But I need it to be exactly be bent the same as the sketch. As you see in my pictures above, when you change the bend property to Bend Outside the actual bend differs with my sketch. (red lines in my previous post images)

You are right. When it's 30deg and the setting is Material Outside, it flattens. But not when it's 5deg.
Should I use Bend Outside for small degrees?

thanks.

Why did you use a Miter Flange on that part vs. an Edge Flange? Miter Flange is intended for making multiple flanges in one feature, which can be very convenient depending on the application.
Step 1:

Step 2:
Select the edges of the Base Flange you want the Miter Flange.

And now you made a part with 8 flanges in one feature.

Anyway back to your problem part.
In order to have the Material Outside

You need to set a relief otherwise you will end up with zero thickness between the radius and the base flange.

And then it will flatten.

I hope this makes sense.

That was just an example to show my problem.

in case of your advice about the relief, I'll try and will report back.

Thanks for your time, advice and sharing your experience.

Hi @Tera
I'm not sure as I can't open the file.
I was just wondering, have you tried unchecking it?
