Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
I've had a few users have document unit precision settings changed while they were working and they do not know how they did it as they did not access the Settings menu. I was wondering if there are any ways to change document units precision that someone could use by mishap such as a click at a specific location, or a keyboard shortcut? I'm not so quick to blame it on SolidWorks as the users who have declared it are the type to go "bonkers" when SolidWorks freezes or when they're trying to work around issues.
The settings change vary from unit precision (.1234 to .1 and in between) to fraction rounding being turned on or off.
Any idea how someone could change unit precision without going to settings>Document properties>Units and working in there?

Nope, it's the kind of things we don't play around here with so most people don't know how to toggle these.

Alex, is that happening in models, or Drawings?

Both, imagine that, which leads me to believe someone was banging on their keyboard in hopes of something happening and something did happen but not what was hoped.
Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
Is it possible they are using a dimension style that is non-standard for your company? Each one has it's one precision setting.

Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
Could they be changing settings on individual dimensions in the property manager (with Override Units in the Other tab or in Tolerance/Precision in the Value tab)?AlexLachance wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 2:28 pm Both, imagine that, which leads me to believe someone was banging on their keyboard in hopes of something happening and something did happen but not what was hoped.

Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
It is truely the document properties units that are being modified when it happens.Glenn Schroeder wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 4:54 pm Could they be changing settings on individual dimensions in the property manager (with Override Units in the Other tab or in Tolerance/Precision in the Value tab)?

Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
There's a bug report in the Knowledge Base describing something like what you are seeing:
========================================================
BR10000348532 -- SOLIDWORKS Document Properties - unit precision changes to 6 decimals when sketch is moved
1. Create a part in SOLIDWORKS
2. Go to Options > Document Properties > Units
3. Use MMGS unit system with default settings, i.e. Length unit precision is set to 2 decimals > OK
4. Sketch a rectangle and add dimensions > exit sketch
5. Repeat step 2 > Length unit precision appears correctly with 2 decimals > OK
6. Edit the sketch > move the rectangle by pulling one corner > exit sketch
7. Repeat step 2
Actual result:
Length unit precision changes to 6 decimals.
Expected result:
Length unit precision remains unchanged to 2 decimals.
Reproducible both in SOLIDWORKS Connected and SOLIDWORKS desktop.
Closure Information
This problem will be resolved in R2024x GA cloud platform for SOLIDWORKS Connected, and in SOLIDWORKS desktop 2024 SP0.
=====================================================
I can confirm this behavior with my SW 2023 SP2.1 install.

Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
Sounds like a plausible cause, thanks mate. I figured it might have been an actual shortcut that I wasn't aware ofJSculley wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 8:23 am There's a bug report in the Knowledge Base describing something like what you are seeing:

This is a long shot, but I have seen all types:
Is it possible that they are accessing it via this shortcut: And then thinking that it isn't accessing the options?

Re: Changing document settings unit precision in working environment
Nah, I had thought about that but they aren't accessing the "settings" window, I have to tell them how to do the unit switch lolDanPihlaja wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2024 8:43 am This is a long shot, but I have seen all types:
