In Context References

I have an assembly that had in context references for wire packaging. I did a "Save As" on this assembly for an FE study. None of the original parts or sub assemblies exist any longer in this assembly, but I cannot get the in context references to go away. Is this a bug? (2022 SP5) or is there a way to get rid of them?

Right clicking doesn't show any options that seem helpful.

I see the option isn't in the right click menu, but have you tried selecting one and hitting the Delete key on your keyboard?

Yes. Nothing happens.

What about "Purge Unused Features?"

I remember seeing a question very similar to this on the old forum. I don't remember if it was answered or not, but I DO remember that a bunch of heavy-hitters chimed in. Let me see if I can figure out the search function on the SWYM and find it.

That doesn't do anything either.

@SPerman Are those parts still in the tree somewhere?

Dayum, Mr. Pogue, that's a name I haven't seen in a while.

Edit: Are the parts supressed in the assembly? That would explain the feature appearing but being suppressed

I'm not sure this solves the problem, but it at least makes it where I don't have to look at them in the history tree.

No. All of the sub assemblies were dissolved, and any parts that were remaining were saved with new part numbers for FE.

Well, I was able to reproduce it by creating an in-context part in an assembly, saved to disk. Then I add a sub-assy and drag the in-context part to the sub-assy and save. Then I close everything and open the sub-assy and delete the part and save. Then reopen top level assembly......got the orphaned update holders. Don't see a way to clean them up.....maybe there is an API method.

The link Dan posted above goes back to 2017. This isn't new.

I bet it goes back to the beginning....or at least when they added the ability to reorganize the tree structure easily. The early days you couldn't reorder parts into sub-assy's in the tree.

If I remember correctly, they added the updated holders at one point, but not a way to hide them. They got so many complaints that later, they added a way to hide them. Pretty sure that was as far as they took it.

2001 added the ability to hide them. I think "in-context" was added around 97 - 98. We've always hid them in our templates since the option was available, just never saw the point in them showing. Plus we don't use in-context relations except in some conceptual work. The entire concept needs to be revamped in SolidWorks..
