I'm sure I was able to do the following procedure in previous versions, but it seems this time it's failing. Maybe some settings somewhere?

In the following image I want to link a dimension in Sketch23 to a dimension in Sketch27. (different component, same assembly)

While in edit mode of Sketch23, I double click 8.7, type an = sign in modify box, double click Sketch27 to show the dimensions, but I can not pick 5.0 to make a linked dimension.

• SolidWorks 2021 SP3
• I don't want to use global variables in this specific case.

Any kind of help is much appreciated.

Try top down assembly modeling.

Sorry. But I'm not allowed to share it. Even for posting the image I had to ask for permission first.
Is the method I'm talking about works for you in 2021 sp3 version?
Is there any setting (concerning external references) for this?

Sorry without file my idea is limited. Some one may give better idea.

I hate when Solidworks acts stupid. I had to close and launch SW again. After that, I was able to do the task.
